Since our ancestral apes evolved into humankind, we have been fascinated with who we are and how we work. We’ve continued to ask these questions through the ages of our evolution and out of this insatiable curiosity we’ve developed the tools to find the answers. From the seemingly floundering medical practices of the Middle Ages through Leonardo da Vinci’s autopsies, we are now able to routinely fix our failing organs.
Our equally exponential advances in technology have enabled us to design prosthetics, medical aids andtransplants. With the leaps and bounds in our ability to engineer our own genes, the bionic man is now a reality!
EEESTA’s tenth annual Prestige Seminar
Date: Wednesday 12th November 2008, 5.30 pm to 9.30 pm Venue: Weston Auditorium, De Havilland Campus, University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield.
The seminar brings a panel of three distinguished speakers who will explore theseadvances under the umbrella of Biomedical Engineering.
This is a fast growing branch of knowledge bringing together science and engineering in a world of expertise to aid problem solving and innovative design, helping medics and physicians to make incredible improvements to peoples lives.
From faster, more precise diagnostics to targeted treatments and specialised after care, Biomedical Engineering is an extremely wide interdisciplinary field, which is both challenging and stimulating but, above all, is vitally important to the future health and wellbeing of the population.
An essential element of the Prestige Seminar is the final chaired discussion when the audience can put forward their views and questions to the speakers and debate some of the decisions ahead.
